Lock the stove before removing heavy cookware if unloading one side can cause the appliance to swing. Allow hot components to cool before reaching around the stove to operate an inaccessible lock.

A gimbaled stove depends on its mass distribution. The appliance is designed to hang with the cooking surface level when correctly installed and loaded within its operating limits.

Check the empty stove first. It must return to its normal position without remaining against a stop. A persistent list can indicate incorrect installation, a displaced component, uneven loading or restricted movement.

Add cookware progressively and observe the effect while the appliance remains cold. A heavy pot on one burner can alter the stove’s balance. An open oven door, loaded grill tray or weight placed on the door can move the centre of mass and cause abrupt swing.

Do not use the oven door as a shelf, step or body support. Opening the door changes the appliance balance, and the gimbaled stove can move toward the cook. Control the stove and door according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Check whether the pan and its handle can move through the complete gimbal range. A burner that appears protected when the stove is centred may move toward the cook as the vessel heels.

Fit and adjust pot restraints before lighting the burner. A restraint can be described as a pot holder, pan clamp or fiddle, depending on the appliance. Its purpose is to stop cookware from sliding or leaving the burner.

Position the restraint against the pan without lifting, distorting or tipping it. The pan must sit fully on the burner support. Tighten adjustment knobs enough to prevent movement without damaging the restraint or cookware.

Check that the restraint cannot rotate away under load. Worn threads, loose bases, corrosion and grease can allow an apparently tight restraint to move.

Use restraints on every active pan. One secured pan does not protect another pan on the same stove. Do not use a kettle, frying pan or small saucepan without restraint because the cooking period is short.

Confirm that lids, handles and restraint arms do not interfere with each other. The cook must be able to remove a lid or extinguish the burner without reaching through a hot obstruction.

After use, clean and inspect the restraints. Food deposits can seize threads and prevent adjustment during the next passage.

A gimbaled stove must move, but it must not swing without control. Excessive movement can throw liquid against a lid, load the pot restraints and bring the hot appliance toward the cook.

Maintain clear movement without creating unnecessary momentum. Abruptly opening the oven door, placing a heavy pan or removing a load from one side can start a swing.

Use only the volume required. Heating less water reduces stove load, heating time and the amount that can spill.

Avoid draining a full pan of boiling water underway. Select meals that absorb their cooking water or use a controlled quantity. If draining is unavoidable, wait for suitable conditions and establish secure body support before moving the pan.

Do not carry an open vessel of hot liquid through the cabin. Transfer smaller quantities into secured containers at the stove or allow the contents to cool.

Open lids away from the body. Steam and condensed water can burn the cook even when the pan remains restrained.

Establish the cook’s position before lighting the stove. The person must be able to brace against normal heel and vessel motion without contacting the moving appliance.

Keep the cabin sole dry and clear. Water, oil, food, footwear and loose equipment can cause a fall toward the stove. Deal with a spill only after controlling or extinguishing the heat source.

Wear footwear and clothing that protect the body without catching on controls or cookware. Keep loose sleeves and cloths away from flame.

A gimbaled LPG stove requires a connection capable of accommodating the appliance’s approved movement. The connection type, length, routing and fittings must comply with the stove instructions and the requirements applying to the installation.

Inspect accessible flexible connections with the fuel isolated and the appliance cold. Look for abrasion, hardening, cracking, corrosion, contamination, unsupported weight and contact with hot or moving parts.

Observe the connection while moving the cold stove slowly through its normal range. It must not stretch, kink, twist, rub or restrict gimbal movement. Do not pull the appliance beyond its normal range to test the hose.

Do not reposition, disconnect or replace LPG components unless authorised and competent to perform the work. An apparently minor change can damage a fitting or create a leak. Use a licensed or authorised gas fitter where required.

Do not test for gas leakage with a flame. Follow the installed system’s approved leak-testing procedure and applicable requirements.
