I frequently leverage GAI tools in my creative and editorial processes, primarily ChatGPT, CoPilot and Claude. This is how I incorporate them into my workflow:
I use ChatGPT, CoPilot, Claude and Gemini to help brainstorm my ideas and topics for website pages. This requires the creation of a detailed prompt outlining key topics or questions. Frequently I run the same prompt through different models and compare the output to ensure accuracy or consistency. Many of the content ideas are directly derived from my book The Marine Electrical and Electronics Bible and also from my and other lived experiences. Much of my content inspiration comes from professional interactions with other boat owners and those that I advise along with a lifetime of sailing and professional activities.
I am a professionally qualified Technical Writer and I adhere to the principles that are part of that profession. After creation of any output the content is rigorously assessed, fact checked and edited to reflect my own professional and lived experiences. I spell and grammar check all output in this process. If the content drifts away from my template or prompt, it is rerun and checked again to ensure that consistency, voice and authenticity remain mine.
What my prompts demand. No empty narrative, no interpretation. no waffle, no padding, no fluff and written in plain English language. No curation of information and data. Absolutely no generic content. conditional advice, and operational interpretation. No invented service assumptions. No interpretation where factual data is not available. The output is carefully edited to ensure this, so that readers, which are yacht owners and skippers like myself, get the essential facts that can be read and used.
Photo Images. My website includes images that I have personally taken on various boats or with occasional permission from the taker. These are taken either using my phone or a camera and edited on my laptop using editing tools. All images are carefully assessed for relevancy and resized before loading to my website
Infographics. My website includes infographics that are created using Chat GPT or other AI tools. They are based on the text used within the web pages they are loaded adjacent to. Every infographic is carefully checked, edited or assessed for relevance and accuracy. Some may also contain images that are uploaded and used by tools to create accurate images. Occasionally some images may have inaccuracies within them and they are corrected as soon as that is identified.
Despite the diligent processes I use, mistakes sometimes happen. Corrections are promptly and transparently communicated when errors are identified, whether factual inaccuracies or omissions. I welcome reader feedback and hold myself accountable to the highest ethical standards.
