The eastern and southern sides are fully exposed to Coral Sea swell and are not suitable for anchoring.

The safest approach is from the northwest, shaping toward the mooring field with the resort jetty ahead. Approaches from the north or west are clear, with predictable shoaling. Approaches from the south or east require threading between coral patches and should only be attempted in overhead sun and good visibility. Swell wraps around the island in fresh southeast trades, creating chop on the western side.

The primary mooring field lies northwest of the resort jetty in 6–12 m over sand and coral rubble. In strong southeast trades, the mooring field becomes gusty, with wrap‑around swell and wind‑against‑tide chop.

Anchoring is permitted only outside the designated no‑anchoring zones and well clear of coral. Depths shoal rapidly toward the reef platform, and vessels must avoid drifting eastward toward coral heads. Holding is good in sand but limited in coral rubble.
